This video explains the basics of connecting your MIDI device for different uses in LMMS. 

EDIT: A lot of people want to know how drum pads can be used in this program. Soundfonts (SF2) are a way that you could get some basic ready-made drum sounds to work, but other than this I can't find a way to get the pads working. I will make a video in future if a method arises!

Please note: if your device does not register in LMMS, here are 4 things you can do:
1. Restart LMMS.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Make sure your device is connected properly.
4. Make sure your device has the latest drivers.
5. Reinstall the device drivers.

If none of the above work, it's likely your device just isn't compatible with the program.
